Web design is a constantly evolving thing, and it was time to give SwiftKanban a fresh coat of paint. The new look of the SwiftKanban user interface (UI) experience is more modern and packed with insights you know and love. The UI is rich yet simple, and logically organized for easy navigation and focused attention. We have made some enhancements like introducing a new top menu bar, categorizing options, revamping the design of the filter window, notification panel, and so on.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • New Board Layout is currently in Beta mode.
  • Post Release 10.0, the new Board layout will automatically be enabled. If you still want the comfort of the Old Board Layout, you can switch back for now, and give us feedback on how you’d like us to improve the UI.
  • Post Release 10.0, the default theme for the new Board layout will be Indigo. So if you have set some other theme prior to Release 10.0, you will be taken to the default theme, but you can always change it to other themes.

Terminologies for the Key UI Elements

In the following sections, we have used the terminologies as shown in the above image. So, we request you to get accustomed to it so that you can have a better understanding of the key UI elements.

Use the newly introduced “New UI BETA” toggle button at the control panel to navigate to the New UI of Board layout. Use the same toggle button to switch back to the old Board layout.

List of Key Changes

What has changed? Here’s a list of the key changes we have introduced:

Changes in Main Menu Bar

Under the main menu bar we have made the following changes:

Old Board Layout New Board Layout
All the menu options like to navigate to other Boards, or navigate to Analytics page and so on were available under the Board Name. Now, we have moved the available menu options, which are used to navigate to other Boards and features, under the main menu bar option.
Also, under the Board name, you have the following options:

  • Navigate to the Board profile, by clicking View.
  • View the recent Boards
  • View all the Boards
  • Create a new Board

Changes in Control Panel

In the new Board layout, the Search Board Items, Home View, and Help & Support menu have no change as compared to old Board layout. We have introduced a New UI Beta toggle button in both old as well as new Board layout that when enabled will change the Board layout to New UI; else will show the old UI. Given below are the details of changes for the remaining menus.

Notification Panel

Old Board Layout New Board Layout
  • To view all notifications we had a hyperlink See all notifications at the bottom.
  • For various notification types, we had images against each notification.
  • Now, we have Show all notifications at the top of this panel.
  • Now, for various notification types, we have replaced the images with new set of icons.

My Boards

Old Board Layout New Board Layout
To view your recent Boards as well as all Boards, we had the option to click Recent Boards menu. Now, we have renamed the Recent Boards menu to My Boards menu and we have the option to not only view the resent Boards or all Boards but also the option to create a new Board.

Note: We have removed the redundant shortcut options to navigate to Backlog, Analytics, and Kanban Board from here.

More Options

Old Board Layout New Board Layout
To navigate to Dashboard page, People page, Admin level settings, and Team page, you had to click Admin, Dashboard, Boards, etc. menu. Now, we have renamed the menu to More options and made the following changes:

  • If you have Admin access, you will be able to see Dashboard, People, Admin Settings, and Team.
  • If you have Member access, you will be able to view only the Dashboard and People options.

Note: We have revamped all the settings related to Admin and collated them under Admin Settings. We have highlighted the changes here.

User Profile Panel

Old Board Layout New Board Layout
To navigate to the User Profile page, Change Password page, apply a Theme to your Board, and Logout, you had to use the User Panel. Now, after doing an analysis, we have found that their are certain themes, which are hardly used by you and so we have kept only 4 most used Themes in the user panel. Also, we have introduced Display Labels toggle button that lets you choose if you would like to display the labels of all the available options on your Board. If you enable it all the labels against each icon or option will be displayed; else all the labels are disabled and is only displayed when you hover over an icon or menu.

Changes in Left Menu Bar and Introduced Top Menu Bar

For better understanding, we have provided the following image that shows the new positions of the menu compared to the old Board layout.
