Using the Export feature, you can export the board details to a file in the MS Excel format, along with the cards in the board, that is, user stories, defects, and issues.

Note that you can export only one board at a time. All cards for default and custom card types are exported in separate worksheets. The data for custom fields in the card types is also exported.

To export board details and cards for a particular board:

  1. Navigate to the list of boards by clicking the Boards menu on the toolbar.
  2. Click a board to select for exporting and click the Export icon on the toolbar.
  3. In the Export window, select ‘Export only selected item(s)’ in the Export Option. By default, the Export Format is set to ‘Microsoft Excel Worksheet (XLS)’. Enter the name of the file to which you want to export the details. You can leave this blank and while saving the file on your system, you can enter the file name.
  4. Click Submit.

Note that the export process for cards will fail for Ms Excel export if the card type name contains any of these special characters — [ ] ? / \ *. When exporting to an MS Excel file, SwiftKanban creates a worksheet identified by the card type name and exports details of all cards into the worksheet. According to the limitation of Microsoft Excel, the worksheet name cannot contain special characters and hence the export fails.

The file is downloaded to your system. When you open the file, you will see that the ‘Boards’ sheet contains the board information, and other sheets i.e. User Stories, Defect, Issues and other custom card types contain details of cards.

Note: While exporting Kanban cards to the selected format, only the latest 10 comments in a card get exported and the rest is ignored.
